"Fitter Happier" is a short musique concrète track that consists of sampled musical and background sound and spoken-word lyrics recited by a synthesised voice from the Macintosh SimpleText application.

Just for comparison, here's a version of this that I made on an LCIII+, using MacinTalk 3 and "Fred", several years ago: Run the emulator, read the READ ME file for instructions and enjoy this goofy little experiment! The big compromise is that the exact synthesised voice that Radiohead used ("Fred") isn't available to us, but the voice "Marvin" is a close fit and allows us to experience something really pretty neat! Sadly, we cannot emulate in-browser a Mac capable of running MacinTalk 3, so have to compromise a little and use MacinTalk 2.

This Internet Archive emulated Macintosh item is a recreation of Radiohead's song "Fitter Happier" from their seminal 1997 album "OK Computer".īut why? Well, Radiohead created the "vocals" for this song on a Mac! A Macintosh LCII, to be precise, using the Apple software MacinTalk 3.
